Why I Started Writing

I never set out to be a writer.

Honestly, the thought had crossed my mind — but turning it into something real felt like a dream just out of reach. Until one Christmas changed everything.

Her name is Melissa. She served as the Children's Ministry director at The Rock Calvary Chapel, and I had the privilege of being one of her teachers. We talked often, laughed often, and she had a gift for truly seeing people. She saw me.

Melissa walked alongside me as I went through the School of Ministry — encouraging me, guiding me, believing in me even when I was still figuring out what God was calling me to do. She knew I loved the Lord. She knew I had a heart for writing. And that Christmas, she did something simple and beautiful — she gave several of her teachers a gift. A devotional notebook. Twelve months of blank pages just waiting to be filled.

I had no idea what God was about to do with it.

I began writing. Slowly at first — just me, my Bible, and those blank pages. One day at a time. One Scripture at a time. One honest conversation with God after another. And somewhere in the middle of all those quiet mornings something shifted. The pages kept filling. The words kept coming. And what started as a Christmas gift became A Year in His Presence — my very first published book.

When I placed that book in Melissa's hands and told her what it was — she cried.

So, did I.

Friend, I share this story with you today because I want you to hear something important. You may be holding someone's destiny in your hands right now and not even know it. A kind word. A small gift. A moment of genuine encouragement. In God's hands those things are never small.

And if you have a dream tucked away in your heart that feels too big or too far away — I want you to know that God has not forgotten it. Sometimes He just wraps it in brown paper and puts it under a Christmas tree.

Today's Reflection: Who has God placed in your life to encourage you? And who might be waiting for you to be their Melissa?

— Rebecca
