The Gift of an Ordinary Day

Published on July 17, 2026 at 8:05 AM

Have you ever woken up to a day with nothing special on the calendar and thought, "Nothing exciting is happening today"?

I have. More times than I can count.

But lately, God has been teaching me something beautiful — the ordinary day is not a throwaway day. It is a gift.

In Psalm 118:24, David writes, "This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." He didn't say this is the day of the promotion, the breakthrough, or the miracle. He simply said — this day. The one right in front of you.

The morning coffee. The quiet before the house wakes up. The familiar drive. The simple conversation with a friend. These are not interruptions to the life God is building in you — they are the life He is building in you.

Some of the most profound moments I have had with the Lord didn't happen on mountaintops. They happened on ordinary Tuesday afternoons when I stopped long enough to notice He was right there with me.

Friend, don't rush past today looking for something bigger. God is in the small. He is in the still. And He is in every ordinary moment you are willing to offer back to Him.

Today's Reflection: What is one ordinary moment from today that you can thank God for right now?
